Really Green Smoothie
This smoothie is built to be filling rather than just refreshing, and the ingredient list explains why. Kale contributes a solid amount of fibre along with a range of micronutrients, and that fibre is what your gut bacteria rely on to produce short-chain fatty acids linked to a healthier gut lining. Avocado and chia seeds both add healthy fat and additional fibre on top of that, and the combination of fat and fibre is what gives this smoothie genuine staying power: both slow down digestion and blunt the blood sugar response from the banana and honey, which supports steadier energy rather than a quick rise and fall.
Chia seeds specifically also provide plant-based omega-3 fatty acids, which are worth prioritising if your diet doesn't include much oily fish, and omega-3s have a role in supporting a calmer stress response over time when included consistently rather than occasionally. Almond milk keeps the base lighter than a dairy smoothie while still providing enough liquid to blend everything smoothly. Because this recipe doesn't rely heavily on fruit for its sweetness (just one banana and a small amount of honey), the overall sugar content stays fairly moderate compared with fruit-forward smoothie recipes.
In terms of time, this is a five-minute blend with no cooking involved, and the recipe itself notes it works as a smoothie "for any time of day," which is accurate: the fat and fibre content mean it holds up as well as a mid-afternoon snack as it does a breakfast, without the energy dip you'd get from something lighter and more sugar-driven.
