Strawberry Pomegranate Green Smoothie

Pomegranate is the standout ingredient in this recipe from a gut health perspective. It's one of the higher-polyphenol fruits available, and those polyphenols are specifically fermented by gut bacteria into compounds linked to supporting a healthier gut lining and lower inflammation. Pairing it with spinach in the green layer means you're combining two genuinely useful sources of fibre and plant compounds in one drink, rather than relying on a single ingredient to do all the work.

The layered method (making a green layer, then a pink strawberry layer, and pouring one over the other) sounds more involved than it is: it's really just two short blends rather than one long one, and the visual result is worth the extra two minutes if you're making this for a family breakfast or want something that feels a little more considered than a standard smoothie. Coconut water is used in place of plain water in both layers, which adds natural electrolytes and makes this a genuinely useful option after exercise or in warmer weather when hydration needs are higher. The frozen banana in both layers provides natural sweetness and a small amount of additional fibre without needing any added sugar.

There's no dairy or added protein in this particular recipe, so it's worth pairing with something more substantial (a handful of nuts, or a boiled egg on the side) if you need more staying power before lunch. As a stand-alone option, though, it's a quick, fibre-forward way to start the day with genuine variety in the plant compounds you're consuming.
